The Senate Administration for Urban Development and Housing draws up development plans and project-related development plans for the capital region, development regions, and areas of exceptional urban significance. The development plan stipulates how certain areas can be used.

The state of Berlin creates the legal prerequisites for the new museum building

The draft of “Development Plan 1-35ba – Kulturforum/Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts” was available to the public from May 8, 2017 to June 12, 2017. It included an explanation, the environmental report, and the key environmental statements.

The draft plan was submitted to the Berlin House of Representatives by the Senate in January 2018. In March and April 2018, deliberations took place 

in the Urban Development and Housing Committee, the Cultural Affairs Committee, and the Main Committee. In its deliberations on April 26, 2018, the House of Representatives followed the committees’ recommendation and approved the draft development plan.

This procedure created another important prerequisite for the realization of the Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts.
